TSIS Next
A Quicker-and-Easier Version of
TSIS
TSIS Next, a new
user-interface for CORSIM, is now installed
alongside the original TSIS.
TSIS Next
contains the same
type of functionality that can be seen in the TShell, TRAFED, and
TRAFVU component programs; but with a completely different
architecture, offering a unique set of advantages and
limitations. It is now possible to use
either version of TSIS,
depending on which features and functionality are desired.
TSIS
Next version 6.2 now animates vehicles on the
map, somewhat
similar to TRAFVU. This feature is a "work in progress", and
does not draw laneage as accurately as TRAFVU. An icon is
available for
switching between lane drawing mode (like TRAFVU) and the default
link-node
diagram mode (like TRAFED). Version 6.2 also supports input data
entry for the new two-lane rural highway feature, and the new vehicle
type O-D feature.

TSIS Next
requires the Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 to be installed on
the computer. If not already installed on your computer, you can
access the
Microsoft .NET Framework from the Microsoft
Windows
Update site (check for Optional Updates, then look under Software).
TSIS Next is a relatively new application,
so please send any problem reports and suggestions to McTrans. Some advantages
and limitations of TSIS Next,
relative to the original
TSIS, are
listed
below:
Advantages
- One-touch simulation
and animation
- No need to create a
TSIS "project file"
- User-friendly
scaling of bitmap backgrounds
- Dot-net architecture
offers improved look-and-feel
- Interactive drawing of roadway curvature on
the map
- Offers more default
traffic settings than TRAFED currently does
- One-touch
link to TRANSYT-7F optimization and summary reports
- Modify XY coordinates
for all nodes in the network, simultaneously
- No
need to switch back-and-forth between TNO and TRF file formats
- Modify XY coordinates
for a group of selected nodes, simultaneously
- Properly handles lead-lag
phasing for coordinated-actuated controllers
- Output quick jump
offers quick searching of the large CORSIM text report
- Combined TShell, TRAFED, and TRAFVU
functionality within one application
- Modify all entry node volumes and/or turn
movement volumes with a growth factor
- Offers preset signal
phasing for restricted users (TRAFED only offers this feature for power
users and administrators)
Limitations
- Cannot
copy-and-paste
two networks into one, like TRAFED can
- No access to the
Runtime Extension or Scripting Tool, like TShell has
- No input dialogs for emissions data or
traffic assignment data, like TRAFED has
- Vehicle animation and laneage drawing are
less precise than they are in TRAFVU
- Cannot edit freeway
incident detection and point processing data, like TRAFED can
- Cannot automatically
split one link into two by dropping a node in the middle, like
TRAFED can
