HCS HANDS-ON TRAINING

Intersections (stop-controlled, roundabouts and signalized); urban streets (segments, facilities and travel time reliability); interchanges and alternative intersections
Day 2 (1:00-5:00 ET)

This training is developed for engineering and planning professionals with basic knowledge of highway capacity analysis and traffic engineering concepts who want to develop hands-on experience with HCS. Our experienced instructors will walk through the essential steps of typical capacity analyses, such as creating a new analysis for different facility types, reviewing currently developed HCS files, checking for input errors and interpreting HCS outputs for analysis purposes .
Attendees are expected to have basic knowledge of highway capacity analysis and traffic engineering concepts.
Other requirements include:
Attendees must meet minimum technology requirements such as having a computer with a steady internet connection and access to basic applications such as Zoom and a PDF reader.
The use of HCS is required for the hands-on problems in the course. Time-limited versions of HCS may be provided to registrants.
For an optimal experience, we recommend the use of dual monitors to follow the instructor screen and work with the software simultaneously.

Examples of safety performance predictions are presented for highway segments and intersections. Participants gain hands-on experience with the HSM method and Highway Safety Software - HSS. Additional topics covered in this course include an overview of safety principles and HSM crash modification factors for each facility type.
